The Ewage-Notu are a coastal people group of Oro Province, living around Gona, Buna, and Dyke Ackland Bay. Their history is shaped by fishing, river trade, and close clan networks. Their language belongs to the Binanderean family, reflecting long settlement along the northern coast.
Daily life centers on fishing, sago processing, gardening, and small-scale trade. Extended families share labor, food, and childcare. Community celebrations involve feasting, dancing, and storytelling. Their diet includes fish, taro, bananas, coconut, and sago, common to PNG coastal societies.
Many identify as Christian, yet traditional beliefs in spirits, ancestors, and fear of sorcery still influence daily life, often blending with biblical teaching.
Clear Bible teaching, trained local leaders, and discipleship are needed to strengthen faith and remove fear-based practices. Improved healthcare, education, and sustainable livelihoods would help address isolation and poverty.
Pray for better medical access, schooling, and economic stability, and for believers to join God's mission locally and beyond.
Pray for spiritual maturity, bold witness, and freedom from fear.
Pray for the faithful translation and wide distribution evangelism materials, and discipleship resources in the Ewage-Notu language.
Pray that the Ewage-Notu Christians would surrender to the great commission and preach the gospel and make disciples among their people and beyond.
